generations to come

I'm really appreciating the Bible reading plan put out by our church this year. I'm especially enjoying my tour of the Old Testament.  One observation I've made about the first several books is that folks seemed to be aware of their legacy and their potential impact on future generations.

Genesis 17:8 Also I give to you and your descendants after you the land in which you are a stranger, all the land of Canaan, as an everlasting possession; and I will be their God."
9 And God said to Abraham: "As for you, you shall keep My covenant, you and your descendants after you throughout their generations.

The promises of God, His covenant, was made for all the generations of Abraham.

Exodus 12: 42 It is a night of solemn observance to the LORD for bringing them out of the land of Egypt. This is that night of the LORD, a solemn observance for all the children of Israel throughout their generations.

The works of God were meant to be remembered across all the generations.

Numbers 15: 23 all that the LORD has commanded you by the hand of Moses, from the day the LORD gave commandment and onward throughout your generations—

God intended that His instructions would be passed down to future generations.

We have God's Word on it...promises, works and instructions for living...and they are intended for all generations.  It makes me think about the need for the next generation to grasp God's reality and of the impact our lives can have in that process.  Can there be any greater legacy than that of the knowledge of our Lord?

blessings,
Rob Smith
