intersection of heaven and main

Where roads intersect, decisions must be made.  Drivers must choose straight, right, left or stop, as necessary.  Many people have a nebulous view of God.  To some, God is a vague and distant concept who somehow lives outside of time and may or may not have much to do with their lives.  Their view is that common sense is needed for this life and who can be bothered with a supreme being who is removed and impersonal.  One of the appeals of history is it helps us connect something that is real in our lives today with the real experience of people long ago.  We realize how much we have in common across time with others and we gain perspective for our present circumstances.  What if the God of "far away" intersected history and walked among men? That would be an historical reality that would disperse the fog of a vague deity.  That is exactly what happened about two thousand years ago.  A 33 year visit by God took place in human form.  This visit was forecast for hundreds of years before the time it took place.  The visit was recorded in detail as it happened and the visit has spawned a following that has numbered in the millions since it occurred.  Yes, God intersected history a mere 20 centuries ago so that we would be prompted to make a decision as He still intersects our minds and hearts in the present day. (It's dangerous to ignore an intersection!)

Proverbs 8:1-2 (The Message)
Do you hear Lady Wisdom calling?
Can you hear Madame Insight raising her voice?
She's taken her stand at First and Main,
   at the busiest intersection.
Right in the city square
where the traffic is thickest, she shouts,
"You—I'm talking to all of you,
everyone out here on the streets!"

blessings from where the roads make a cross,
Rob Smith
