the exercise of freedom

Freedom...the word, itself, is almost synonymous with America and Americans.  This beautiful February morning the bright azure sky seems to almost shout the word!  We are free as Americans but our true freedom is experienced on the inside of our personalities.  We have been made free from the grip of the worst tyrant of all...a tyrant that would conspire to keep us separated from our Heavenly Father and the freedom that comes from His knowledge.  We live in the land of the free...from external monarchs and dictators...but we each retain our slavery to the cruel tyranny of the flesh...and its crushing pressure to sin.  But, as we have placed the weight of our trust in the living God and His resurrected Son we have been set free from sin's rule.  And now, we can purpose to set our minds on Him.  And in that freedom we hear from Him...we see Him all around...we begin to live centered on Him.  The exercise of true freedom comes from our absolute rejection of all masters apart from our Lord....the one bond that doesn't lead to bondage.   We are more free than the flocks of birds that migrate with the weather.

Romans 6:14 Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God's grace.
