Jesus, the true superhero

My son in law, Mike, is teaching my grandson Peter's Sunday School class.  I understand from Mike that one of the first points he is making with his first graders is that Jesus is the real super hero (even better than Batman, Spider Man or Superman).  We have been reading through the New Testament book of Hebrews in our adult class lately and I have found some scripture to back this up.

Hebrews 1:The Son radiates God's own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command. When he had cleansed us from our sins, he sat down in the place of honor at the right hand of the majestic God in heaven. This shows that the Son is far greater than the angels, just as the name God gave him is greater than their names.

Right off the bat we learn that Jesus is really special because He is the Son of God.  Jesus radiates God's glory...that's better than any force field from the other heroes.  Through his commands he holds everything together and keeps this universe in balance...from atomic structures to our bodies to the movement of planets, stars and galaxies.  He won the most epic battle of the ages by defeating sin and death and now He sits next to His Father's throne in Heaven.  As amazing as angels are...with their power and ability to travel with amazing speed...Jesus is greater.  His name says it all:  Jesus means Savior...or you might know Him as "the Rescuer".

We will take a look at some more references to our true superhero over the next few days...please stay tuned.

blessings,
Rob Smith
