Subject: the searchlight

Psalm 139:23-24 "Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.  See if there is any offensive way in me,  and lead me in the way everlasting."

It is interesting that we need help to know ourselves.  We have two problems: (1) We are too close to the subject to see ourselves objectively and (2) We don't have the wisdom or perspective we need to see ourselves correctly.
-
But God does.  He made it all and placed us square in the middle.  We start in the middle and often feel muddled.  He has a plan for the universe that includes every atomic particle and He through us into the mix too.  But our tendency is to wander or to stall as we follow our own path or become convinced there is no path for us at all.
-
There is "a way everlasting".  Jesus said (John 14:6) that he was "the way, and the truth and the life".  We need the Father to lead us to the Son and we need the Son because He is our way to the Father.  Jesus also put it this way "I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand." (John 10:28).
-
If you feel far from the "way everlasting" ask God, as the psalmist did, to turn His searchlight on inside your heart and reveal your real situation and then lead you to put your hand in Jesus' hand.  He will surely lead you and He has pioneered the path personally.
