I have been enjoying Facebook recently and discovering what a great way it is to touch base...or stay in touch with...lots of friends and family. Of course it's especially exciting to follow important developments, like a marriage or birth of a child. It is also a good way to keep up with prayer concerns, like an upcoming surgery or illness. Facebook allows you to sketch out your personal "profile": birthday..interests..favorite activities, etc. One of the more interesting aspects of the profile is something called "relationship status" where you can indicate your level of intimacy from being single to being divorced and everything in between (including, "it's complicated"). But the status that intrigued me recently was "in a relationship". I can imagine the excitement of ayoung person who has longed to narrow down the field and find, what appears to be, their special person...the one with whom they begin to believe they will share life together. The joy of being in a relationship...and more specifically...in that special relationship, is the joy of giving and receiving love and unconditional acceptance and being filled with great hope for the future. Wouldn't it be great if we had that kind of expectation of finding a personal relationship with the Lord...the One who actually has given us life? I can just imagine the excitement in Heaven when a person first discovers the great love our Heavenly Father has for them...and then reaches out in faith to invite the Lord into their heart. Somewhere in the Great Book that is kept up there (perhaps it is called "Lifebook") a heavenly scribe writes next to their name: "in a relationship", and underneath adds "with Jesus".
Revelation 22: 17 The Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" And let the one who hears say, "Come!" Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.
blessings,
Rob Smith
