It's roof's a summer hat that shields from glare and heat...
It's floor extends a hand to shake those passing on the street...
It's wide steps: an invitation to come away from cares...
It's rocking chairs nod approvingly to those who take a seat...
The screen door's slam is a welcome clap,
So let's enjoy the view,
This porch we find relaxing,
Where doing nothing is the most important thing to do!
[Note: I've been struck by the feeling of welcome that a front porch seems to express. I hope that our attitudes to all around make them feel as welcome as a front porch]
Acts 28: The people of the island were very kind to us. It was cold and rainy, so they built a fire on the shore to welcome us.
