Fw: The gift

John 4:10

Jesus replied, "If you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to, you would ask me, and I would give you living water."

Christmas and gift giving are closely joined.  We give to each other because God first gave to us.  But, just as the woman at the well (recounted in John chapter 4) didn't know the gift giver and didn't know the gift, many who give packages to each other at Christmas don't know the giver or the gifts either.

And what is the gift that we ought to give the One who has given us and forgiven us and paved the road to life eternal?  Well, He gave himself and I think that He modeled the appropriate gift for us.  He gave His life for us and now we can give ours for Him.

Romans 6:13

 Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God.
