Psalm 76 celebrates the great power of God...power to defend and power to execute judgement. Interestingly, He holds this power in reserve, like a stockpile of nuclear weapons. He allows us to have a great deal of freedom to act, to choose, to make moral stands for good or for evil and He doesn't immediately step in. We can think that He is no longer there....but that would be a mistake. The peace we generally experience in our lives and the harmony of nature will be shattered again and as they have been in the past when the ultimate reconciliation of right with wrong takes place in the course of Creation's plan. Consider a few phrases from this psalm:
-
76 In Judah God is known;
his name is great in Israel.
2 His abode has been established in Salem,
his dwelling place in Zion.
his name is great in Israel.
2 His abode has been established in Salem,
his dwelling place in Zion.
-
[my thought: God lives in a city called peace (Jerusalem)]
-
6 At your rebuke, O God of Jacob,
both rider and horse lay stunned.
7 But you, you are to be feared!
Who can stand before you
when once your anger is roused?
-
[thought: the God of peace is also the God of justice and He will enforce that justice.]
-
12 who cuts off the spirit of princes,
who is to be feared by the kings of the earth.
who is to be feared by the kings of the earth.
[thought: behind all the headlines of all the media is the greatest story yet to be written when ultimate judgement of good over evil comes!]
-
blessings!
