Subject: contrast in scorn
Hebrews 12:2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
-
Luke 22:63 The men who were guarding Jesus began mocking and beating him.
-
Luke 23:11 Then Herod and his soldiers ridiculed and mocked him. Dressing him in an elegant robe, they sent him back to Pilate.
-
Two kinds of scorn or contempt were on display during the punishment and crucifixion of Jesus. Those who brought Jesus to Pilate scorned Him and showed contempt for Him with mocking and beating. Truly this was the most misdirected hate across all of history. We know this because when Jesus was raised to suffer on the Cross He only had scorn for the shame of that Cross. He did not return scorn to those who had shown contempt to Him.
-
He knew that His death on that manmade tree triumphed over its false judgment of Him and provided deliverance for all men who would recognize what had been accomplished there. This scorn has become our salvation.
-
blessings,
Rob Smith
