We climbed a trail in the Rocky Mountain National Park on Monday for a few hours up and a few hours back down...saw some great views of a mountain stream (The Alluvial Fan) breaking down and over rocks and we wound our way up through white bark aspen trees. The path was well defined but full of loose stone, pits, gravel and small streams. You had to keep your eyes fixed down as you walked to place each step with care. Periodically we would break out in spots with broad vistas of high mountain peaks and we even spotted a waterfall in the distance. But most of the time, up and down, we had to keep our eyes fixed on the next step we would take.....seemed like some kind of metaphor for living...fixing carefully on the next step to be taken in order to eventually appreciate the beautiful bigger picture. It was especially meaningful to make this hike with some of the closest people in the world to me...again some kind of metaphor for living...not for ourselves alone, but with others to enjoy and share the view! (with special thanks to Michael)
