the choice

We meet many people in the early chapters of Genesis.  The account generally provides a name of a man, his age when his first son is born and how long he ultimately lived (and before the days of Noah they lived 800-900 years).  But two characters were treated with a little more detail.  Enoch and Noah did a little more than live, give birth and die.  They walked "in close fellowship" with God.   The quality of their lives was different and Enoch lived 365 years and then he was taken by the Lord, without dying.  Noah was the only righteous man of his time and when God was ready to wipe out all mankind due to corruption He decided to start over with Noah and give man one more chance.  So, I was wondering, why did Enoch and Noah walk in close fellowship with God.....and then it hit me.  They walked closely with God because they chose to.  They chose to acknowledge Him properly and yield to Him and love Him and each day they would see the presence of God as essential to their daily experience.  Their lives were wrapped in the reality of the God who is the Father of all that is real.  And we have the same choice, regardless of what the vast majority seem to do and to be.  We can choose to walk in close fellowship with God too!

Genesis 5:21 When Enoch was 65 years old, he became the father of Methuselah. 22 After the birth of Methuselah, Enoch lived in close fellowship with God for another 300 years, and he had other sons and daughters. 23 Enoch lived 365 years, 24 walking in close fellowship with God. Then one day he disappeared, because God took him.
