Sleep is humbling. We need to spend somewhere between a fourth and a third of our lives practically unconscious. Yet when we are awake we expect to be "world beaters" bent on conquest and control. How do we forget that a large part of our day is needed simply to recharge our internal batteries? Scientists don't fully understand sleep, or what happens while we are sleeping but they know it has something to do with physical and mental restoration. I find sleep to be a good example of the sovereignty of God. At the time of day when we are least in control and least aware He refreshes us most and pours rest into us. Reflecting on sleep reminds me that there is one who "neither slumbers, nor sleeps".
Psalm 121:3
He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber.
4 Behold, He who keeps Israel
Shall neither slumber nor sleep.
