Psalm 112 1: Praise the Lord!
Blessed is the man who fears the Lord,
who greatly delights in his commandments!
who greatly delights in his commandments!
-
Psalm 112 builds the house of faith. It explains how real and how practical faith is. As the first verse establishes, the foundation is built on a sincere fear/trust/belief in the living God who made us with all Creation and who gave us instructions for living.
-
This foundation leads to blessings in the home, in the work place and in service and example to the greater community, and note the encouraging promise that, even in dark and difficult times, God's light will break through:
-
2
His offspring will be mighty in the land;
the generation of the upright will be blessed.
3 Wealth and riches are in his house,
and his righteousness endures forever.
4 Light dawns in the darkness for the upright;
he is gracious, merciful, and righteous.
5 It is well with the man who deals generously and lends;
who conducts his affairs with justice.
the generation of the upright will be blessed.
3 Wealth and riches are in his house,
and his righteousness endures forever.
4 Light dawns in the darkness for the upright;
he is gracious, merciful, and righteous.
5 It is well with the man who deals generously and lends;
who conducts his affairs with justice.
-
And consider verse 7, in view of the constant torrent of "bad news" that assaults us every day...and at times touches us personally:
-
7
He is not afraid of bad news;
his heart is firm, trusting in the Lord.
his heart is firm, trusting in the Lord.
-
This is contrasted with the "wicked man". It appears from the psalm that there is no fence...either you build your life on trust in the Lord or you don't!
-
10 The wicked man sees it and is angry;
he gnashes his teeth and melts away;
the desire of the wicked will perish!
he gnashes his teeth and melts away;
the desire of the wicked will perish!

Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live."
