What is Jesus doing now?

Hebrews 9:15 That is why he is the one who mediates a new covenant between God and people, so that all who are called can receive the eternal inheritance God has promised them.

Hebrews 12:We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith.

Romans 5:11 So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God.

Romans 7:So, my dear brothers and sisters, this is the point: You died to the power of the law when you died with Christ. And now you are united with the one who was raised from the dead. As a result, we can produce a harvest of good deeds for God.

Romans 8:10 And Christ lives within you, so even though your body will die because of sin, the Spirit gives you life because you have been made right with God. 11 The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.

What is Jesus doing right now???  We know what He did when He died on the cross about 2000 years ago.  We know that He resurrected to life and then showed Himself to many people before ascending to His Father.  We know that when God received Him and His perfect sacrifice the work of redemption was complete on our behalf.  But what is Jesus doing now as He sits at His Father's side?  Having studied Hebrews this summer I have been stirred to consider the work of Jesus right now.  We are in the time after His resurrection and before He comes again to gather His church.  What is Jesus doing right now?  Above are a few verses that might shine some light.  Jesus is the great High Priest who, unlike the Levitical priests, remains always in the Holiest Place, next to His Father.  He is acting on our behalf as a mediator.  That is, He is between us and God, serving on our behalf.  He is the one who has initiated our faith and He is the one who is completing it!  He has made us friends with God.  We have also been united, or made one, with Jesus through that faith and this is what makes it possible for us to do good things...the things He planned for us to do.  And Jesus not only lives close to the Father.  He lives within us as well.  Because He lives in us He gives spiritual life even to our earthly bodies...bodies that were already physically alive but needed spiritual life too.  I am encouraged to remember just how alive Jesus is and how active He is right now...both in Heaven and in our physical lives right now!!

blessings and peace,
Rob Smith
