fragrance

2 Corinthians 2:14 "But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere. 15 For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing, 16 to one a fragrance from death to death, to the other a fragrance from life to life."

There are ways of communication that transcend words.  Music, art, physical touch and the power of a smile are some examples.  Perhaps one of the deepest and most evocative is that of fragrance.  There are times when I will catch an aroma and memories from childhood are triggered...perhaps from the smell of food, or a perfume that matches an elementary school teacher.
-
Somehow the imagery of fragrance seems very much like spiritual reality.  You can't see... or touch... or hear... a fragrance but its reality is surrounding and in-filling.  Your entire mood can be affected and even redirected.
-
There is a fragrance that belongs to the believer in Christ, the one who has laid down self-life and humbly bowed before the Cross.  It isn't a perfume that one can apply and it isn't a smoke or a film from having walked into or through some kind of atmosphere.
-
The fragrance of Christ has its origin in Heaven and has permeated our heart and works through our being to show through our minds and manifest in attitudes that can only be described as "Christ in you".  His reality...His presence...His very nature communicates through this fragrance.
-
"to the one a fragrance from death to death, to the other a fragrance from life to life."
-
Colossians 1:27 To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

"Death is inevitable.  Life is a choice!"

John 11:25
Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live."
