Old Testament prophecy
Psalm 68:18 You ascended on high,
leading a host of captives in your train
and receiving gifts among men,
even among the rebellious, that the Lord God may dwell there.
leading a host of captives in your train
and receiving gifts among men,
even among the rebellious, that the Lord God may dwell there.

New Testament fulfillment
Ephesians 4:
8 Therefore it says,
"When he ascended on high he led a host of captives,
and he gave gifts to men."
You may never have seen yourself as a captive...but you were! You were held by strong chains in a darkened dungeon in the lowest place of the remotest castle. It is how each of us actually begins our lives. But our chains are our familiar weights, our darkened dungeon the only light and the only room we've known. Rather than remote...our castle seemed to be the only place...and others shared our location.
-
We needed one to come from a different place...from outside our experience and beyond the walls of our dungeon and our castle. Only he could lead captives like us back to the place he had come from.
-
And when he gave us that gift...the gift of awareness that there was light outside the dungeon...that there was hope beyond death...then we knew that there also was a source to the life we had experienced that was also from that place above and beyond our natural experience. What had been foretold was completed and the captives have been led out of the prison and into his presence.
-
Ephesians 4:7 But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ's gift.
