Fw: Your work

Mark 13:34 It is like a man going on a journey, when he leaves home and puts his servants in charge, each with his work, and commands the doorkeeper to stay awake. 35 Therefore stay awake—for you do not know when the master of the house will come, in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning— 36 lest he come suddenly and find you asleep. 37 And what I say to you I say to all: Stay awake."
-
You may wrestle at times with your purpose.  Why are you here and what are you supposed to be doing?  This passage is part of a teaching from Jesus on the times when He will return.  He compares His current absence with a man away on a journey...but who will eventually return.  There are two strong exhortations: "Stay awake and alert" and "Do the work He left you with while He is away".  So we are each challenged, as those who have come to know the love of Jesus, to have a sense of watchfulness for His return (and perhaps for His Spirit's voice while He is away) and to be earnest about doing the work He left...the work of trusting Him with all of our hearts and the work of sharing His salvation message.
-
We have a role to play that leads to the amazing climax that Jesus describes just earlier in His teaching:
Mark 13:26 And then they will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. 27 And then he will send out the angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of heaven.
-
He will return from His journey and we will be thrilled to see Him and to realize that some of those "elect" who are gathered have come from our work while He has been away.

blessings,

"Death is inevitable.  Life is a choice!"

John 11:25
Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live."
