Now you are a people

1 Peter 2:10 "Once you were not a people, but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy."

Hosea 1:10  "Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be like the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured or numbered. And in the place where it was said to them, "You are not my people," it shall be said to them, "Children of the living God."

We belong to layers of 'people groups'.  Starting at our homes we are members of a family, a neighborhood, a community, a country and a world.  We also associate different ways with groups...political, hobby, entertainment, work.

But don't you find it exciting to consider being a member of the 'people of God'?  Not a club to be joined...not a family to be born into by your own heritage...not a job or career.  But when you are one of the 'people of God' you can connect with others who are also, no matter what family, nation or culture they come from.

Do you identify with the first statement: "Once you were not a people..." or do you identify with the second statement: "but now you are God's people"?

There is room for another grain of sand, if you are open to receiving His mercy!  For God's people are His children and He is the living God.
