drink of choice

Sitting in the barber chair today I overheard a few people discussing their "drink of choice".  They were comparing different kinds of liquor.  I began to think about alcohol and what it is that attracts us to it.  (apart from the taste or sociability aspects).  Of course low levels of blood alcohol concentration can be pleasurable, even beneficial, at times.  (Please understand: I don't intend to disparage all drinking with these observations)  However, higher concentrations turn dangerous and can shut down body functions completely.

But what really intrigues me is that with almost any degree of alcohol in our bloodstream our minds and nervous systems are affected and so is our "in-look" and our "out-look".   We can take a detour under the influence...away from our normal actions and reactions.  We can hide, reduce inhibitions, and escape reality.   Serious drinkers may actually be looking to make an alteration to their lives.

I think that they're right!  Most of us need some major alterations.  Sometimes the choice may come down to chemistry or Christ.

Ephesians 5:18(The Message version) Don't drink too much wine. That cheapens your life. Drink the Spirit of God, huge draughts of him.

blessings,
Rob Smith
