John 3:16 is widely recognized, even by unbelievers, as the most familiar Bible verse. From signs displayed in the stands at football games, to t-shirt messages and bumper stickers most people recognize the biblical address, while many may not know the quotation:
-
John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life."
-
This morning I was reading from the small letter of John at the end of the Bible...1 John. I found another "John 3:16"...1 John 3:16... and it seems to take the John 3:16 we know so well and give it to us to give to others the love expressed in the more familiar verse from John's gospel:
-
1 John 3:16 "By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers."
-
Having just celebrated the death and victorious resurrection of the Savior this past weekend it seems fitting to reflect on, not only the meaning and power of that liberating death and victory over death....but on how we can apply that great reality as we live out this day and every day!

"Death is inevitable. Life is a choice!"
John 11:25
Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live."
