2 Corinthians 5:14 For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; 15 and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised.
-
We are grateful that Jesus died for our sins and paid the price we never could to cover our sin. His death, in place of ours, means we have already gone through death, if we have placed our hope in Him. There is now no fear of death, or what follows, for the one who has been born anew.
-
But, more than that, this passage from 2 Corinthians explains that, having gone through death and still living in the flesh, we have purpose. Just as Jesus died to give us life, now we should live the "gospel in reverse" and die to self that Jesus' life would shine through us.
-
He died that we might live. We die to self that He might live in and through us.
