I don't know if it's just me, but it seems like there are far too many movies being made about creepy things like vampires and aliens and the occult. Our culture really has been tipping on the verge of completely falling into an abyss of spiritual darkness. One upcoming movie apparently will have a star who is able to communicate with the dead and the brief preview seems to imply that he is depicted as some kind of hero. It occurred to me that there truly is One who communicates with the dead, but we tend to get the roles reversed. We consider ourselves to be the living ones and those in eternity as the dead ones. But, actually, the scripture is pretty clear that we are the ones who are dead in our trespasses and our separation from God. The culture that seems to be crumbling all around reflects lives that are dominated by death. But there is One who has not given up on us...there is One who still communicates with the dead. Scripture indicates that we all begin this life in spiritual deathand that we need to respond to the One who speaks to us and reaches to us from Heaven. It isn't until we see ourselves clearly as the ones who are in darkness and death that we can respond to our Lord's message of life, written in the blood and broken body of our Savior. If we are starving for drama and amazing stories we will find the greatest ongoing story to be true: that we have a faithful God who still communicates with the dead and who brings life and hope and Heaven to those who will hear and respond.
John 5:25 Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live.
blessings,
Rob Smith
