sleep

If we are so much in control of our lives then why must we sleep?  How can it be that we would allow the world to carry on without us for a third of every single day?  The fact that we must spend so much of our lives just recharging and renewing our "battery" shows how limited is our power and how small is our strength.  It's almost as if the vitality of our days creates an illusion of capability...fooling us into thinking we are great in our power.  We are like these new electric cars that can take you to work and back...but then need to be recharged overnight before the next commute.  It is good to be humbled by sleep because it reminds us that there is one "never slumbers nor sleeps".  (I don't mean the Eveready Bunny, either!)

Psalm 121: 3 He will not allow your foot to be moved;
         He who keeps you will not slumber.
 4 Behold, He who keeps Israel
         Shall neither slumber nor sleep.

 5 The LORD is your keeper;
         The LORD is your shade at your right hand.

blessings,
