they left their boat and their father

Matthew 4:21 "And going on from there he[Jesus] saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them. 22 Immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him."
-
The power of Jesus' call is very strong.  As He began His ministry one of the first things He did was call men to walk with Him.  The words of Matthew's Gospel are concise and pointed.
-
He saw...He called...They left all...They followed.
-
There is something about the call of Jesus that cannot be denied.  Even with no understanding, there was a compelling response.  And they left their boat...and they left their father.  That is, they left everything that had represented their lives to that point...source of income, familiar trade, family, friends...any shred of the familiar routine that tends to give us security and stability...
---
One more time: ".....and he called them.  Immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him...."
-
Have you ever known the call of Jesus in your life?
Have you left your past, familiar and comfortable, to follow?
-
When Jesus calls us, we do need to leave our past...our sinful past which was all about self...and follow a new Head in our lives.
-
Something deep inside us was waiting for His call.  When it came, and we recognized that it was He who was calling, we also left boat and father and came after Him!
-
And it has made...and continues to make...and will forever be...the difference and the glory.
-
Much love,
Rob Smith

Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live."
